Tybee Island Mini Conference

Tybee Island Mini Conference

ICND hit the road to join Red Sky Insurance and Barefoot Technologies for a Vacation Rental Managers Mini Conference in Tybee Island Georgia. The mini conference was held at Tybee Island Social Club, and was a great success! Local vacation rental managers came to learn about Travel Insurance, Property Management Software, and Internet Marketing.

Tybee Island is a unique island off the coast of Savannah, Georgia. The drive down from Ocean Isle Beach wasn’t too bad, about 4.5 hours. When we arrived we were greeted with salty air and 75 degree weather. Tybee Island Social Club is a very charming venue. Decorated coastal shabby chic, it is the perfect place to hang out when in Tybee.  Our attendees were local vacation rental managers who are eager to learn how to help their business grow.

Laird with Red Sky Insurance spoke about how travel insurance can help YOU make revenue. Not only is it good to help protect your guests, but in selling travel insurance to renters, YOU make a portion of the commission. Ask Red Sky Insurance how!

Mike Mueller spoke on niche marketing. From weddings to pet friendly homes, know your niche, know your renters, and get a marketing plan in place to promote it the best you can!

Brandon and Dave with ICND spoke on How To Leverage Social Media Like a Pro— This popular presentation was originally given at the VRMA conference in Nashville and showed guests how important social media and other online marketing tools are.

After all of the presentations, we were treated to cocktails and appetizers provided by the Social Club. If you ever make it out to Tybee I highly recommend checking out this local hot spot!

ICND would love to give a big thanks to Red Sky Insurance for hosting this event, Barefoot Technologies for speaking, Tybee Island Social Club for being so hospitable, and all of our attendees for coming out!

Snow, Ice, and Destruction: Southeast Power Storm Rolls Through

The powerful winter storm that paralyzed our region yesterday, created some logistical nightmares. From Georgia to Nova Scotia, this strong weather pattern is leaving a frozen maelstrom in its wake causing damage throughout. Millions of residents lost power and reports in numerous cities of motorists abandoning their vehicles dominated our local news circle.

Downed power lines throughout the Southeast

Even here on the coast in Ocean Isle Beach, NC, residents were certainly jarred. Reports of downed limbs and power outages had local road crews scrambling throughout the day. Rain mixed with freezing temperatures affected the entire coast with our staff's commutes interrupted by nature's fury.

Thankfully today the temperature will remain above freezing but picking up the pieces are just beginning. North Carolina reports that Duke Energy is working around the clock to restore power. Several of InterCoastal Net Designs staff lost power in their own homes while others shared photos of snow falling throughout Apex, NC.

ICND staff reports snow falling in Apex, NC

In South Carolina, tree limbs submitted to the heavy weight of the ice, as large branches were the main focus of SCDOT. Power lines and branches continue to weigh the community down. Horry County residents were advised to drive cautiously. Schools remain closed for the past 2 days and officials are waiting for the outage reports to make a decision for tomorrow.

The national news is reporting that this is just the beginning. Dubbed Winter Storm Pax, the Northeast is hunkering down for what is turning out to be one of the snowiest years on record. How has this winter storm affected you? Weigh-in with your comments below as well as your location.

30 Million Dollars and One More Year of High School

When I was fifteen, my first job was working at an ice cream parlor one summer. It was for 5.75 an hour and sometimes I was paid under the table. The work was fine, and it was a great introduction to customer service; especially how people react when their ice cream cone isn't as full as their older brother's. Little did I know that I should have been in my room playing with computers.

This week, seventeen year old Nick D'Aloisio sold his mobile application, Summly, for 30 million dollars to Yahoo!. D'Aloisio, developed this application when he was fifteen from his parent's home in London. Summly is an app that aims in providing concise news taken from hundreds of sources to smartphones. This new algorithm allows news stories to be summarized in a succinct manner, giving readers the choice whether or not they want to expand the story or not.

Nick D'Aloisio, creator of Summly

When asked in an interview about this development, a Yahoo source stated, "It started with an insight — that we live in a world of constant information and need new ways to simplify how we find the stories that are important to us, at a glance."

This ever-changing world of receiving news is rapidly evolving. In the last 5 years alone, we have witnessed a remarkable change in how we access information. The Internet, and its real-time updates, have challenged reporters to provide the most accurate and up-to-date information within seconds not days. This is also a good metaphor for entrepreneurs (remember that Harvard dropout and his little website?). Furthermore, this information that reporters are sharing must have enough of an appeal to make users want to read further.

Nick's youthful aspirations seen to fruition is just the latest example of how age is but a mere number. While all the talk (and rightfully so) will be on Nick these upcoming weeks, the next Nick D'Aloisio is already out there developing something we all will want. We just don't know it yet.

What is good to see is that Nick plans on finishing his final year of high school as to maintain some semblance of normalcy. Fortunately for him, he doesn't have to find a summer job.

ICND Spring 2013 Online Marketing Workshop Success!

If you didn’t go to our Spring 2013 Online Marketing Workshop in Myrtle Beach, SC, you missed out on a great time! The workshop was held at the ITT Technical Institute of Myrtle Beach where we found the space plentiful and staff very helpful. A big thanks to Courtney DePaul for her support of our workshop. We opened up the event with friendly registration by Summer Adams as she gave everyone an itinerary and USB key of all the presentations to take home.

Before entering the room, we invited our guests to participate in a fun photo booth prepared by our designer and photographer, Chris Campbell. Team ICND had fun with the photo booth as well. For more photos and fun check out our Facebook album and be sure to “Like Us”. As the sessions took place, we had great one-on-one interaction with our guests and speakers. It was a collaborative effort of presentations and Q&A. We hope to do more follow-up on the topics: SEO, PPC, Social Media, Email Marketing, and Responsive Web Design with additional whitepapers for download on our website. For more information, please visit our website www.icoastalnet.com or contact your Account Manager. by: Vanessa Humes
