Setting Up Your existing email address in Microsoft Outlook 2003

This tutorial shows you how to set up your existing email address to work with icoastalnet email hosting.

To Set Up Your E-mail Account in Microsoft Outlook 2003

  1. Open Microsoft Outlook, select Tools and then E-mail Accounts (If the choice Email Accounts does not appear, click the double arrow at the bottom of the drop down to display hidden choices, then click on it).


  2. A new window will open and you need to choose "View or change existing email accounts" then click Next.


  3. Click once on the account you would like to change (it will highlight in blue) then click the Change button.


  4. In the Internet E-mail Settings (POP3) window, enter your information as follows (if needed):
  5. Your Name
    Enter your first and last name.
    E-mail Address
    Enter your complete e-mail address. Example -  user@icoastalnet.com
    User Name
    Enter your complete e-mail address. Example -  user@icoastalnet.com
    Password
    Enter the password assigned to your e-mail account. There should be a check in the Remember password checkbox.
    There should not be a check in the Secure Password Authentication checkbox.
    Incoming mail server (POP3)
    Your incoming server is mail.icoastalnet.com
    Outgoing mail server (SMTP)
    Your outgoing server is mail.icoastalnet.com
    Do Not click the Test Account Settings button.




  6. Click "More Settings." A new window will open with 4 tabs.
  7. On the General Tab in the "Mail account" box, replace the info that is already in there with your email address (Example - user@icoastalnet.com).


  8. On the Outgoing server tab click the checkbox for "My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication".

    There should be a dot next to "Use same settings as my incoming mail server".


  9. On the Advanced tab make sure there is not a check in either of the "This server requires an encripted connection (SSL)" checkboxes.

    Under Delivery there is a checkbox to "leave a copy of messages on server". If you plan to get your mail using another pop client (such as a cell phone/PDA or an additional computer with outlook), you will want to check this box. If you do check this box, you must check the 2 boxes below it and set the days to 30. This leaves 30 days worth of your mail on the server and allows both of your mail clients to get it and allows you to use the web based mail.

    The Incoming server (POP3) port should be 110 and should never be changed.


  10. The Outgoing server (SMTP) port is set by default to 25. Some Internet Service Providers (ISPs - The company that provides the internet connection at your location) will force you to route your mail through thier server when using port 25. This can cause the authentication information to be lost before the message gets to our server to be sent out. If you ISP does this, you can change this port number to 587 to prevent the loss of the information. If your network has a hardware firewall in place or you have a 3rd party software firewall, you may have to consult with your IT administrator to have this port opened for you. InterCoastal Net Designs recommends using port 587 whenever possible but offers service on both ports.



  11. Click OK, Click Next, Click Finish.
  12. Click New to create a new email message. Enter your email address as the recipient, type test in the subject line and in the body. If you have more than one email account set up in your outlook you need to click the Accounts button to the right of the Send button and choose your new account to send from (It will display the info you entered in the general tab under more settings). You may now click Send. Wait 1 minute and click your Send/Receive button if your message has not been delivered to your inbox. If you do not get your message after 5 minutes, please re-check all of your settings and contact our support staff at 910-575-6095.
