Mac Mail Setup Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger

  1. Once you have opened Mac Mail, if the "Welcome to Mail" window doesn't open, go to the Mail menu and select Preferences. Otherwise, click continue and skip down to step 3.

  2. Click on the "Accounts" tab at the top. You should now be in the accounts area of your preferences. To add an account, click on the plus sign in the lower left corner of the window.

  3. This will start you out in the general information of the e-mail account. Click on the bar for the account type and select POP.

  4. By default, the description for the account will be POP Account. The description is what will appear in the list area for your accounts. Enter your full name and john_doe@domain.com in the Full name and e-mail address area and then click ok

  5. Enter mail.icoastalnet.com for your incoming mail server.

  6. For the user name, enter your complete email address. Also enter your password. Now click ok. To get to the next step, Mac Mail will check the connection to make sure that your information is correct. If it you get an error, check the spelling for your mail server and username and retype the password to make sure that you entered all the information correctly.

  7. For your outgoing mail server, enter mail.icoastalnet.com. Check the checkbox to Use Authentication

  8. Enter your complete email address for the username and then enter password set for this account in the password text field. NOTE: Continuing from this step will check that your outgoing mail server works. If it fails the first time, check to make sure the the information was entered correctly. If it still fails to connect and the information is correct, Your Internet Service Provider (ISP) may be blocking port 25. You'll need to get a hold of your ISP to find out if this is the case. If they do block port 25, you'll need to use their outgoing mail server.

  9. After clicking OK for the outgoing mail server, you should get an account summary that looks similar to the image below with your information that you entered.

  10. To finish up from here, just click continue and then click done in the conclusion window. Your account is now setup to be retrieved using Mac Mail.
