How To Depersonalize Google Search Results

It’s the worst email we get.

“I’m ranking very high in Google for keyword here!”

I’m squeamish to check — and sadly, some of time, my worst fear is realized.

I carefully craft an email with a harrowing punchline:

“You’ve been personalized.”

Browser Security Settings, In each web browser ( ie, chrome, firefox, etc) there are ….

 Browser Security Settings

What are Browser Security Settings?
In each web browser ( ie, chrome, firefox, etc) there are security settings that can impact your experience and functionality while using the internet. These settings can block you from being able to upload and download materials, which can effect your usage while trying to upload something like a photo in your admin area.

How do I change them?

Each browser works differently, has different settings and different ways to adjust those settings.

Internet Explorer (we do not recommend using this browser)

Security settings are changed by adjusting your security “zones”. Setting your zone somewhere in the middle to medium would be best. This will allow security without effecting most of the functions that you would normally use this browser for.

To adjust these go to the Tools menu and chose internet options

Then click the security tab and move the settings to the desired security amount.

Once you chose your setting then click OK

If you do not see the slider to control the setting, then click default level, and then move the slider to the desired security level.

Chrome

Chrome’s settings are a little more in depth. To change the settings in Chrome go to the Chrome menu  Chrome menu Chrome menu > Settings > Show advanced settings > Privacy.

I found some very helpful links here, provided by Google to change the various setting for chrome

Chromes advanced security settings

Mozilla Firefox

Firefox has more in depth settings similar to Chrome.. At the upper-left corner of the Firefox window, click the orange  Firefox menu button and select  Options. From the top of the Options window, click the  Security icon. –

Firefox has some helpful links provided for more in depth information as well! See here for more security setting information – http://mozillafirefoxsupport.com/changing-security-settings-in-mozilla-firefox/#sthash.22r2mkHC.dpuf . You can also allow exceptions, so if you have a site that you trust like your admin area you can allow those changes there as well

Problem Upload, the tale of image sizing

Problem Upload
The tale of image sizing, size does matter

The sizing of your images impacts many things. You may incur upload problems due to the file size which can cause your computer to freeze while in the upload process. Also, even if a large image size does upload it can contribute to speed issues on your site, making your site load slower than normal due to the large size of the photo(s) (bigger isn’t always better). The best thing to fix this problem is to resize your images before uploading them onto your site via your backend (aka admin area.)

How do you resize your photo? What size should your photo be?

Well, below I have listed several ways to make the resizing process simpler for you. The optimal size for photo uploads will vary from site to site so please contact Support at any time to get the proper upload dimensions. These dimensions can serve as your photo resizing guidelines and will help you, your upload process and your site immensely. As a general rule of thumb your photo should not be larger that 1200px on the long side (which ever is the longest side of the picture: vertical – 1200px tall., horizontal – 1200px long, square – 1200px on either site) and the file size should be no larger than 1MB.

Photo resizing
Using a PC via Microsoft
You can resize a picture via “Microsoft Paint”
Microsoft has step by step guidelines online to help guide through this process.

Via the web
No matter what product you use, you can resize your photos online.
Here are a few sites that you may find helpful, but you can find many more by searching online. There area a lot of free options out there! (can’t beat free)

Clearing your cache and why it’s important.

Websites can be composed of thousands of files, and your browser will save pieces of websites. Browsers will use these cached files because it helps to load the website much faster. When we make a change to your website we need to update some of those files. If we change a file that your browser has cached, then you may not see the change because your browser is accessing the old cached version of the file and therefor blocking the updated version of that file. This is why we ask you to clear your cache.

Below are some steps to help you clear your cache on different browsers.

CHROME
1. Click the Chrome menu Chrome menu on the browser toolbar   6
2. Select Tools.
3. Select Clear browsing data.
1

4. In the dialog that appears, select the checkboxes for the types of information that you want to remove.

5. Use the menu at the top to select the amount of data that you want to delete. Select beginning of time to delete everything.
6. Click Clear browsing data.
2

FIREFOX
1. On the menu bar, click on the Firefox menu and select Preferences…
2. Select the Advance panel.
3. Click on the Network tab.
4. In the Cached Web Content section, click Clear Now.
3

INTERNET EXPLORER
1. Select Tools (via the Gear icon).
2. Select Saftey.
3. Select Delete browsing history

4. Make sure to uncheck Preserve Favorite website data and check both Temporary Internet Files and Cookies then click Delete.

Screenshots Made Easy

screenshot

There are a number of quick and easy ways to capture what is on your screen.  By providing ICND with a visual of the exact problem, screenshots are a very effective tool that can help us better troubleshoot any support issue.  In some cases we are unable to duplicate issues our clients may be having, which makes screenshots a very valuable tool!

1) Using the PrtScn button:
The first, and easiest way to just capture your screen is to push the “Print Screen” button on your keyboard, which is often abbreviated as some of the following: Print Scrn, Prnt Scrn, Prt Scn, Prt Scr or Prt Sc. This should copy what is on your screen and place it in your computers’ clipboard. You will not be prompted with any sort of notification that the screenshot has been placed on the clipboard, however, from here, simply push “Ctrl V” (or right click and “Paste”) to add this to an email or in a word document.

2) Jing:
This is a very popular free download that allows you to annotate (draw, use arrows, add text) and provides a link to view the screenshot online. This way, you can simply share the link with someone and they can view it online. Here is an example of a screenshot from Jing:  http://screencast.com/t/iDcRpeR6Zjh
Advantages:
– Free easy download – Click Here
– Can share link or download image
– Annotation options

3) Puush:
An extremely simple tool that takes a picture of your screen and automatically creates an online link. Just share the link with others by pasting it in an email or pressing (Ctrl + V).
Unfortunately no annotation options and this one expires after 30 days but it is a very nice option that automatically adds the link to your clipboard and is VERY quick!
Advantages:
– Free easy download – Click Here
– Can share link or download image
– Super quick!

4) Browser Plugins:
– – Awesome Screenshot
– – Screen Capture (By Google)

There are a lot of easy ways to take screenshots on the computer these days and they certainly help when describing to others what you see on your screen. It helps us to determine what error may be occurring, positioning of items on a screen or even showing us how you would like something changed. We strive to provide the highest quality of service and support possible so if you have something you’d like to learn more about, please don’t hesitate to let us know in the comments below.

ICND Spring 2013 Online Marketing Workshop Success!

If you didn’t go to our Spring 2013 Online Marketing Workshop in Myrtle Beach, SC, you missed out on a great time! The workshop was held at the ITT Technical Institute of Myrtle Beach where we found the space plentiful and staff very helpful. A big thanks to Courtney DePaul for her support of our workshop. We opened up the event with friendly registration by Summer Adams as she gave everyone an itinerary and USB key of all the presentations to take home.

Before entering the room, we invited our guests to participate in a fun photo booth prepared by our designer and photographer, Chris Campbell. Team ICND had fun with the photo booth as well. For more photos and fun check out our Facebook album and be sure to “Like Us”. As the sessions took place, we had great one-on-one interaction with our guests and speakers. It was a collaborative effort of presentations and Q&A. We hope to do more follow-up on the topics: SEO, PPC, Social Media, Email Marketing, and Responsive Web Design with additional whitepapers for download on our website.
